Resident's Former Mother-in-Law Has Not Stopped Coming to Things
A resident's former mother-in-law has continued to attend the neighborhood gatherings he attends, eighteen months after the divorce he believed had concluded the relationship.
She arrives early, takes a seat with a view of him, and refers to him by his full name. At the spring social she asked, of the room, where "the male who wasted her daughter's best nesting years" had got to. He was beside her at the time.
Asked whether she planned to keep coming, she said she had attended these gatherings for thirty years and saw no reason a divorce of his should affect her calendar. She brought a dish. It was very good. He had two helpings and now regrets them.
