Outing Meant to Prove Everyone Was Fine Ends in the South Pond
A weekday outing organized to demonstrate that its three participants were, after their respective divorces, fine, ended Thursday evening with two of them in the south pond and the third on the roof of the maintenance shed.
The three — all recently separated — had agreed to spend the evening not discussing it. By most accounts they managed nearly an hour. What happened after is disputed, but it involved a dare, the low fence by the pond, and a misjudgment about the depth.
Robin, who was on the far bank, said one of the three had announced he was "completely over it" moments before attempting the fence.
The third bird reached the shed roof during the confusion and declined to come down until the others had gone home. Reached separately for comment afterward, all three described the evening as fine.
