Cat Reported on Sycamore Lane; Residents Respond With Coordination, Then With Commentary
A domestic cat was observed on Sycamore Lane on Thursday morning, prompting what residents described as the most organized collective response the lane has mounted in years — followed immediately by its least organized.
The cat, grey and unhurried, wore a collar that suggested it had somewhere to be and was in no rush to get there. It was first reported near the meter boxes at 6:50 AM. Within minutes, residents had relayed its position across four branches. "We had eyes on it the whole time," said one sparrow, who asked to be credited as "the one who called it first."
The coordination held until the cat left, at which point it dissolved into a dispute over whether one resident's running commentary had been helpful or merely loud.
The cat departed of its own accord at 7:15. The lane has called a follow-up meeting, which residents have agreed to attend and to disagree about.
