Call of the Void

Have you ever heard of the call of the void?

That strange voice in your head when you’re standing near a ledge or high window, and it casually suggests: what if you jumped?

Not because you want to die.**But because some part of you wants to eliminate the possibility of falling.

Sometimes, in the middle of a fight with my partner, I hear that same siren go off. The urge to get it over with.

An internal panic button that says: “End it before you fall, or get left in suspense.”

Because uncertainty feels like danger that hasn’t happened yet. And falling is the fastest way to stop the not knowing.
