The harrowing account of a husband whose wife evolved into a different Pokemon five months after the wedding.
We met at a gym. We had the same trainer.
We might never have gotten together otherwise. As you can see, I am a Rock type Pokemon, and she is a Fire type. We weren’t even at the same level. She was literally out of my league.
But we soon found out we actually made a great team. With her ability of Stare-down and Resent and my signature move of Forget and Unaware, no one even wanted to get near us. We started to hang out more and more together.
Unfortunately, there was a lot of resistance when we told our friends and family about our relationship.
Especially with the older generation, there is still prejudice against marrying Pokemon outside of your type. Even my 4th generation friends would joke about how you should never do business with a Fire type and ignorant cliches like that.
It took our first holiday with our families to realize the stress it had on us and our relationship. One of the cousins drank too much and started a fight that broke his horn and clipped my brother-in-law’s wing.
During our post-holiday fight, she used new attack skills that I didn’t even know she had, Silence and Walk-off. She later told me she was as shocked as I was to find her new skills.
We all change and evolve as a Pokemon and as a couple. But I don’t think I really understood until I saw my wife evolve into a different Pokemon right before me.
But eventually, I think we became stronger as a team. Through this, we confirmed our commitment to each other and confusing metaphors.
